THE IMPACT of climate change is likely to slash the Philippines’ gross
domestic product (GDP) by as much as 13.6% by 2040 if there is no action
by the government and private sector, the World Bank said on Tuesday.
“ D a m a g e s f r o m c l i m a t e change are a threat to the Philippine economy. It is likely to
reduce GDP substantially, but the range of possible outcomes i s w i d e ,” Wo r l d B a n k L e a d Economist Souleymane Coulibaly said at a briefing on its Philippines Country Climate
Development Report.
